As the days get shorter, I’m getting creative to see the sun: running errands during the day instead of evening, going for afternoon walks on rare warm days, or even putting my laptop on my lap to work in a chair closer to the window. Seeing daylight and sky are fundamental to our health and wellbeing. We thrive from being aware of day and night as it supports our circadian rhythm and from our awareness of the passage of time as the seasons change. Get outside, sit near a window, see the natural light to experience its power. And when those aren’t possible, artificial is the next best thing. Use mirrors or other reflective surfaces to bounce light deeper into a dark space. Vary the use of direct and diffuse light to simulate more natural conditions. Surround yourself with natural scenes that remind you of the real thing.
